Traffic and Transport

TRAFFIC CALMING SOLUTIONS

  • 2nd Speed check light at Truro end of the village
  • 20mph limit at school
  • Extend Evening Bus Service around early mornings and late evenings, and improve bus stops
  • Extend Kerbs at most dangerous points
  • Redesign exits from Pepo and Creed Lanes
  • Community Minibus
  • Car Sharing Schemes
  • 40mph lead-in to 30mph zone to further slow traffic
  • Speed Cameras

The Solutions

A bypass is top of our wish list. Since this looks increasingly less likely, the following courses of action are our next best options:

The option for a roundabout at the school proved very unpopular, and has been abandoned.

Existing traffic calming methods need to be reviewed and altered where necessary.

Some form of additional traffic calming is needed at the bottom of the village, to slow down traffic past the school, especially at school starting and leaving times.

Junctions on to Fore Street need to have improved visibility to make them safe for drivers entering the main road.

Several pavements need to be widened to allow safe passage for the elderly and parents with prams

Bus services and facilities need to improve to provide all day cover. An alternative is to apply for funding for a community minibus

A transport sharing scheme could reduce the weight of traffic passing through the village

Something is needed to slow traffic at the Truro end of the village from the pub down past the school. This could be another check light, a speed camera, or additional planting schemes to make the entrance to the village look narrower.

Our Policy

  • We will lobby County Highways to make requested improvements to junctions and pavements during next planned resurfacing work
• We will investigate funding sources and training courses for a community minibus and car sharing options
  • We will communicate requests for an improved bus service outside commuting hours and investigate moving bus stops to permit building of shelters
  • We will press for a second speed check light at the Truro end of the village
  • We will continue to push for other traffic calming schemes with County Highways
