Grampound with Creed Parish Plan

THE PARISH

Grampound is a small rural parish midway between St Austell and Truro on the border of Carrick and Restormel. It is famed for its bridge crossing the river Fal, its history and historic buildings, and for good food. It has an estimated population of around 570 persons.

How it Started

In January of 2002 the Parish Council called an open meeting inviting people to come along and hear about a scheme to help villages attract funding for local projects— a “Parish Plan” . Through the Countryside Agency, the Parish Council were able to obtain a grant in order to prepare and conduct a survey around the parish and establish what issues concerned the parishoners most. From this open meeting a steering group was formed to carry out the survey and develop the plan. The questionnaire was distributed in August 2002, and all the results collated into the Survey Report. The findings of the survey were presented at an Open Day held in the Town Hall in January 2003, and the survey report is now available on the village website. This document, plus feedback from the Open Day was used to highlight areas of most concern to the village, and these ideas have been prioritised for action in this document—your Parish Plan.

The questionnaire showed that many people in the village have a number of concerns about the future of the village. These ranged from major proposals such as the provision of a bypass for Grampound village, to improving the quality of life in the village by providing better play facilities for the children. We hope to achieve these goals, by consultation and lobbying of the relevant governing bodies and charitable organisations or simply with the help of individuals within the parish. Assistance can be given with locating funding sources.

THE PLAN

This plan has identified and highlighted parish needs for now and the future. Its purpose is to assist local and regional bodies in understanding the requirements of local people, taking on board the ideas generated by this survey, incorporating them into their budgets, or to use the information in this plan to assist the village with applications for grant funding.
