Affordable Housing Needed

The Problem
The current, very buoyant condition of the housing market means that house prices in the parish are rising rapidly. All developments in recent years have catered for the executive end of the market, which many local people, particularly young families, are unable to afford. Many people, both in the village and outside, still would like a home of their own in Grampound. Of the total number of households who answered this section of the questionnaire (164), 76% are already owner-occupiers. The remaining 24% rent in one form or another.
There is a demand however, for additional housing, with 34 people looking for homes in the village, including 16 already living in it. 82% of respondents to the survey would welcome additional “affordable housing” in the village. Tybesta, on New Hill is an example of what this housing could look like.
The problem is where to build these extra houses. The current planning boundary runs in a linear strip very close to the main A390, tight behind properties adjoining the main road. Current options are limited to infill in spaces or on “Brownfield sites” inside this boundary, like the old Tanyard or Garage. Local landowners need to be approached to secure their commitment to this type of scheme. |
