The ancient seal of Grampound is below

Grampound with Creed lies in the centre of Cornwall, sheltered in the beautiful valley of the River Fal. Settled since prehistoric times, from within the ancient parish of Creed and the old manor of Tybesta, Grampound grew as the main crossing place on the Fal, a focus for travellers and traders moving betwen west Cornwall and England. Thus Grampound became one of the most important towns in Cornwall with a rich and vibrant history. The main A390 road now runs through the town, bringing with it the problems of traffic, but Grampound remains a beautiful location with a rich community life and spirit.

The Parish Council has appointed Elisabeth Chard as Project Co-ordinator for the community heritage project and she’s already getting to know the village.
The aim of the project is to create a heritage centre designed by the community for the community. Elisabeth’s role is to get everyone young and old, Grampound born and bred or new to the village involved in the project.
Over next 18 months mini projects, special events and groups of volunteers will be created to celebrate and unearth the villages long and sometimes dishonourable past. The photographic archive and oral history recording teams are already hard at work. More volunteers are needed so if you have time to spare and want to find out more contact Elisabeth on 07901600469
“This is such an exciting project for the village, there hasn’t been a decade where something major hasn’t happened here, Romans, cavaliers, dodgy politicians and travellers from all ages have found their way to this village” said Parish Council Chairman Peter Hardaker.
