In January 2003 CLARICE WESTLAKE from St. Dennis published a book of her own poetry which she entitled WITH RHYME AND REASON, with all profits arising from the venture being donated to Cancer Research U.K. I was delighted when Mrs. Westlake gave me her permission to print any of her work for you to read in the Grampound Times. The poem I have chosen is appropriate for this season of Christmas. Please enjoy……………
Write me a poem for Christmas
That’s what the Reverend said
So I sat down quietly waiting
Till these thoughts came into my head
I thought of the fun times at Christmas
Of warm fires and soft candlelight
Then I remembered the wandering shepherds
And the star in the cold eastern night
I thought of the feasting and carols
And presents piled high round the tree
Then of three wise men on a journey
In search of a promised baby
I remember the birth of my own son
With the joy he has brought our way
And I think I might know how Mary felt
On that very first Christmas Day
So lets treasure this Christmas feeling
The love and the happiness
And all try to care for each other
Happy Christmas to all and God bless
