Good News

The sun shone on the beautiful Island of Barbados on the 10 th November 2006 to make perfect a special event - CONGRATULATIONS to REGAN (Nee Mallett) & DARREN WILLIAMS who were joined there by family members SHANE, MORGAN, MEL, GILL, KELLY & CARL MALLETT and DARREN’S Mum MAUREEN, for their WEDDING. On the 18 th November the family gathered again this time with many other invited friends for a Wedding Reception at the Brookdale Hotel, Truro.

In the Christmas 2005 edition it was nice to say ‘Welcome to Grampound’ to SAMANTHA LADNER & TIM REID when they moved into “Oakleigh” Old Hill. This edition for Christmas 2006 brings more good news, together with all of our best wishes to the address as we say CONGRATULATIONS! SAMANTHA and TIM on the birth of your daughter, and WELCOME TO GRAMPOUND - MISS MILLICENT ELLEN.

WELCOME TO GRAMPOUND also to ALLAN & CHRISTINE STREET, who have recently taken up residence at Winnow Spring Cottage, Nantellan.

I believe that Allan and Christine have two lovely daughters, but sadly I do not know their names - perhaps I shall by the next edition of the Grampound Times in the Spring of 2007

“Tremethick”, Grampound, (The House of the Doctor) is alive and well again as with great pleasure I can say WELCOME TO GRAMPOUND to the JENKINS FAMILY. That is CLARE, DEAN, HARRY, MOLLY AND LAURIE who joined our village community in August.

To all folk coming to live here we say “Be happy in Grampound!”

Grampound’s Flower Beds : many favourable comments have been heard since they were built and stocked by the Parish Council. Until recently TINA TYLER has been the ‘Flower Bed Supremo’ spending very many hours planting and tending with occasional assistance. Now that she is unable to continue with their care a new ‘Flower Bed Supremo’ has taken over. The Parish Council members were delighted when one of their number JANE SLOAN offered to take on the work, and no doubt you will have seen Jane spending hours tending the beds. Offers of help at vital times will of course be gratefully received, but for now JANE reigns supreme – and with all our thanks!

Grampound’s New Hall : I hope you take the opportunity to read the detailed reports provided for the “Grampound Times” by the Hall’s Development Officer SIMON FANN. Whilst some other halls built at the same time as ours are struggling to survive SIMON’S tireless efforts have ensured that so far the many and varied entertainments he has brought to Grampound have been a great success. CONGRATULATIONS! SIMON, your efforts on behalf of our new hall and the residents of Grampound have been terrific and much appreciated.

(I have just had a brilliant idea - why don’t we all make a New Year Resolution to support all future productions that Simon brings to Grampound - well I think it’s brilliant. Roger-Editor)

After a recent production at our new hall I stayed behind to offer a little “clearing up” help. The tiered seating is to everyones comment excellent, and although the process of setting up and putting back is reasonably straight forward, we should all nevertheless realise that it does not do itself. We are blessed here withtwo stalwarts who seem always to be there to deal. CONGRATULATIONS on your public spirited effort for our hall and our thanks to PHILLIP MANNELL and TONY DAVIES.

CONGRATULATIONS to the members of the Grampound Bowling Club. I suppose it must be acknowledged that it is not a big club when compared to some others, but it is clearly a club with a big heart. Again over this past season the Gentlemen have fought their way up the league, ending the season with promotion to the higher Division. The club’s challenge next year will be to further increase their standard of play to retain their place in their new elevated position. I am sure they will be equal to it.

The SINCERE THANKS of everyone, and particularly of the members of the Grampound Association Football Club must be proclaimed to ANDREW PERRY of “Greenholme” Creed Lane, who has freely given of his valuable time and expertise to recover the surface of the Grampound Playing Field, following the recent motorised attack by vandals there. An example to us all of a true community spirit!

Finally, I acknowledge again the work of our dedicated band of “Grampound Times” helpers, without whose time and effort this paper could not exist. I include especially in this acknowledgement a wish for ‘Many Happy Returns’ of a recently celebrated birthday to DOROTHY HOARE, a long standing member of our team. Sometimes production of the magazine can be delayed slightly for any number of reasons but never in the delivery aspect.

Dot often completes her considerable delivery to all addresses in Old Hill and Creed Lane almost before the printer’s ink is dry! LOVE AND CONGRATULATIONS DOROTHY.
