There are a number of reasons why I like to receive and publish letters I receive as your editor, but two of the most important to me are that, firstly,. all those of you who knew my correspondents when they were resident here can see that they are enjoying reading about Grampound and its people still, and secondly - they always have gratifying comments to offer about “The Grampound Times”. For a considerable part of the time that Mrs. Audrey Bailey (nee Mannell) was away from here she lived in Calgary, Canada. How do I know that? I will leave you to guess. The truth is however, that very clearly she still has a soft spot for this dear old place and keeps in touch from her present home at St. Austell - and yes she continues to be a most generous supporter with her donations to “The Grampound Times”. Thank you Audrey.

Dear Roger & Pat,
Thank you so much for the two copies of edition No. 42 of the Grampound Times, very interesting indeed.
Elsie is actually over here from Canada at the moment, I havn’t seen her yet, but have the magazine sitting here, along with her birthday present, so she will be keen to have it. I pass my own copy on to Daisy.
Hope you had a good holiday.
Love from AUDREY
Nice to hear from JANET & PHILIP RIDDLE who we welcomed to the area in the last edition:

Dear Roger,
Many thanks for sending us the “Grampound Times”. Please find enclosed a cheque to cover postage. ( Thank you for your donation to G.T. – Editor ) Thanks also for the mention and welcome in the magazine - it was a surprise to see our name in print! We are settling in at ‘Golden’ and finding our way around the local area.
Best Wishes,
JANET & PHILIP RIDDLE .
It is some considerable time ago that the “Grampound Times” recorded the passing of Mrs. Gertrude Hall, herself a generous supporter of this paper. Following her death this generous support has been continued by MARY BENNETT, widow of Mrs. Hall’s late brother NEIL and it is very nice that she keeps in touch with us in such a generous way from her present home at Duporth Bay.

Dear Roger,
Thank you very much for sending the Grampound Times, I look forward to reading it, so does MARGERY PASCOE and her daughter DIANE, who live in Surrey. Now I hear that it travels back to Cornwall, to SUSAN SPRY in Threemilestone!
I congratulate you on the high standard you keep up, and I’m sure my late sister-in-law, GERTRUDE HALL, would appreciate all your achievements.
I hope Pat and the family are well, and you of course.
Yours sincerely,
MARY BENNETT
Since the “Grampound Times” first appeared I have been grateful on a number of occasions to one time resident here MRS. HETTY BAWDEN, who is now a resident of Woodland House, St. Austell, for contributions telling us about Grampound life and activities of years long past. Events that even over my own 71 years I have no recollection of, but which were of great interest to read about. Mrs. Bawden’s daughter SHIRLEY PILLING writes….

Dear Roger,
Just to say a big thank you to you for continuing to send Mum a copy of “The Grampound Times”. She really does appreciate it.
Enclosed a cheque for £10. to contribute to production costs.
Yours sincerely,
SHIRLEY PILLING (nee Bawden)
You will have realised from the letters printed that copies of “The Grampound Times” do travel long distances to reach Grampound folk and this is an aspect that pleases me greatly. The longest travelling copy goes to New Zealand but just short of there lies Australia, where Grampound lad WILLIAM RICHARDS lives with his family. It was brilliant therefore to receive the following letter from William’s cousin MARGARET RICHARDS….

Dear Roger,
PETER and I have just returned from visiting my cousin WILLIAM in Perth, Australia. He is much appreciative of receiving “The Grampound Times” and has given me a donation to the value of £30. Please find the cheque enclosed.
Hope you and Pat are both well and thank you for posting me the “Grampound Times”.
Kind Regards,
MARGARET RICHARDS.
