I believe the village is lucky to benefit both from hirers that supply tuition for cost and for those that set up the other activities. Amongst the latter SARAH BUTTER and the Amateur Dramatics Club have put in a lot of time and effort to get clubs off the ground; similarly TINA TYLER in relation to the Table Top Sale. There are numerous other people that contribute to these and other activities (for example PAUL BREWER for arranging the Butterfly talk) and thanks should be registered to everyone involved for their commitment.
Unfortunately we have lost Junior Cricket as the instructors have better facilities at the brand new Roseland School Sports Hall. Also absent now is the Tae Kwon Do for kids who have moved to Blackwater Hall.
Some clubs advertise their contact numbers on the notice board in the hall entrance and there is always a copy of the month’s bookings on display there. If anyone wants to confirm a hiring or has a query concerning any of the above events you can also contact me.
WATCH THIS SPACE FOR NEWS ON THESE NEW ACTIVITIES:
At the time of going to press I am negotiating with a coach to see whether short tennis can be brought to the hall.
Also please note there is a meeting on TUESDAY 16 TH January at 1pm in the hall to discuss times and activities for the older residents of Grampound. So please consider what you would like to see: a coffee afternoon? A games Club? An arts Club? If you have any ideas, or would like to co-ordinate such sessions, please come along.
Events update - Spring Menu:
Everyone who came to the Richard Durrant concert went away amazed at the quality of performance - and what a full page spread in The Voice! Trying to maintain the quality of our Autumn menu after Richard, Tins & Fishes, Kneehigh and Storycraft is a challenge indeed - but here goes. As with my last update there are some events that are definitely booked and some that still await confirmation. As usual I am trying to book a varied menu:
Saturday 7 th January 2007 7.30pm: Miracle – The Time Machine - DEFINITE
The return of Miracle, after Aladin and Case of the Frightened Lady, is very welcome. This time they will present their version of another classic story. Why not make this your Christmas entertainment? It’s suitable for all….but get your tickets in advance (from me or GRAHAM & JENNY at the shop/Post Office) as they are selling well.
Saturday 20 th January 2007 7.30pm: an evening of classical music - DEFINITE
Hot off the press!! A quartet of excellent musicians will present a programme including well known pieces from the classical repertoire and operatic arias.
HEATHER ANTHONY (Soprano), ANTHONY MEE (Tenor), FRANCES EAGER (piano) and RACHEL BEALE (violin and recorder) are all experts in their field and have played together or performed separately in major national and international venues and shows. This will be a rare treat - if you know anyone who likes classical music or is learning an instrument or is part of a choir tell them to come along to pick up some tips!
To be continued…..
February: PUPPETCRAFT - probably Saturday 24 th February - “ Perseus amd The Gorgon’s Head”. The epic adventures of Perseus with actors and puppets, live music and song as told by the Greek Gods themselves. Follow our reluctant hero on his fantastic and humorous journey to slay the Gorgon whose gaze will turn you to stone! This is a WOW of a show for all the family.
March: THREE DAFT MONKEYS - date unknown yet. A Falmouth based pop-folk group, led by the amazing ATHENE ASHTON on fiddle, who play a fun mix of Celtic, Balkan, Latino and Cornish music. Having played at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival this will be another evening of quality music.
May: KEPOW THEATRE - probably Sunday 20 th May - “Seven Ages of Man”. A comedy show about the stages of life, the title coming from Shakespeare’s motion that we go through seven. This was a sell-out hit in New Zealand, Canada, the U.S.A and the 2006 Edinburgh festival. It will be transferring to London’s West End after Grampound!
June: The Grampound Proms II - Saturday 2 nd June - content to be confirmed. Back by popular demand with thanks for arrangement by BRIAN MARTIN. An evening of entertainment that will no doubt be as well received as the 2006 one.
I hope you will find lots of positive things there to come along to. It is essential to be able to continue attracting such events that they are well supported. It is also important that the Hall, either through the regular hirings or through these special events, continues to generate as much income as possible. This is crucial so that those who audit its activities can see how much this village values its facility and what tremendous effort is put in to make it sustainable financially.
There is a need for the hall shows to be priced as low as possible so that as many people as possible can afford to come along whenever they can; there is also a need for the hall to balance its books - I hope we are walking this line as fairly as possible!
If you have any views on any of the above - or want to book tickets - please contact me.
