The Grampound Times

Grampound Churches of St Nun and St Crida

Harvest Supper: A very enjoyable evening was spent in the Village Hall on the 13 th October form the annual Harvest Supper. Although arranged very quickly all the usual foods were there and 40 adults and children enjoyed an excellent meal. A raffle was drawn after the main course and about 10 prizes were won. After the second course an auction was held to sell other items of food which had been donated and then a further auction was held for some of the remaining food. A very successful evening from an enjoyable and a fund-raising point of view with Church funds benefiting by about £300.

Autumn Fair: Our annual Autumn Fair was held in the Village Hall on Saturday the 18 th November with our usual stalls serving Plants, Fancy Goods, Tombola, Raffle, White Elephant, Produce, and of course the excellent lunch. The event opened at 12 noon and we hope as many of you as possible were able to support.

Service of Nine Lessons and Carols: This will be held on the 15 th December starting at 7pm at St. Nun’s Church. If current plans come to fruition this year will be special as the Church will be decorated with Christmas Trees supplied kindly by a number of our village organizations, and they will also provide representatives to read the evenings lessons. I hope you will be able to support the evening and enjoy the atmosphere. We hope to end the evening with our usual refreshments. It will be an enjoyable evening and is an excellent way to start Christmas!

Christingle Service: This Service always popular with children especially, will take place in St. Nun’s Church at 4pm on Sunday the 24 th December.

GENERAL NEWS: Now that we have finished the works on the roof at St. Crida’s and the provision of Toilets we have to call a halt to major works to enable us to build up our resources to tackle the next scheme, and be assured there will be another! Projects to be considered are Electrics at Creed, plaster repairs and repointing at St. Nun’s, and there are sure to be others. The rear pews in St. Nun’s have been removed and this has improved accommodation for the children’s Sunday Club and Services giving them more room.

Any ideas on fund-raising would be appreciated; contact any member of the Parochial Church Council.

In the last issue of “The Grampound Times” a welcome to a previously retired Vicar was included in this column; unfortunately the name was not shown. So a belated formal welcome to the Revd. DENNIS NICHOLLS who I know is already known to some of our congregations.
We still have a need and a warm welcome for anyone else who would like to help out in any way, so if you think you can help please contact us. Currently we have only one Worship Leader taking our Morning and Evening Services once a month and help with this would be much appreciated. We must all remember that we do not go on forever, and some of us need replacing - some sooner than others. 2006 is The Year of the Volunteer, so let us finish it with success.
