Hello Everybody,

It’s Grampound Carnival time again. Carnival Day with its afternoon Fete and evening Carnival is one of my very favourite days in the year.   As we enter July month I have with a few friends already decided upon what we shall try and produce as a float this year.   Planning what to do and carrying out the plan I find is almost as pleasurable as the Carnival itself.   The really special thing about Carnival Day is in my view the excellent opportunity the Carnival Committee provide to other organisations to join in and make money for their own purposes.   We should all be very grateful to them and make every possible effort to support their events..

Did you notice my cry for help with the “G.T” in the last edition?   Fortunately three people did and to their credit did something about it.   I am most grateful to GILLIAN THOMPSON,  BOB DIGBY and DAWN HARRIS  who have offered me their help, which I have accepted most thankfully.

Gillian is an extremely busy lady as she is the appointed Clerk to the St. Columb, St. Minver and Grampound with Creed Parish Councils, but has still offered her help with editing duties.  Brilliant!

Bob has provided two articles for this edition and I must admit until I read  “Coming back to Grampound” I did not realise his previous connection with Grampound.   Amazingly his Grandmothers house he refers to must have been next door to mine -  or was it the same house!   The important thing is that Bob has returned to Grampound and joined the little band of Grampound Times volunteers.  Excellent, and thank you Bob.

Dawn of course needs no introduction to Grampound folk having been volunteering her help with numerous organisations over the years.   At the conclusion of each print run of the “G.T” over 40 books have to be enveloped and addressed for posting to people residing around England, N. Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America  -  on top of distributing to our gallant band of deliverers locally I have found the posting aspect to be an onerous one  -  Dawn has offered to relieve me of that work for which I say “Thank you very much Dawn”.

When Chris left Grampound a year and a half ago to work in America the “G.T” was in a spot as he did the complete setting up of my work ready for the printer  -  a task well beyond my computing ability.   We were incredibly lucky at that time as  DEAN JENKIN  stepped immediately forward and offered to keep the printer working.   Dean is however, an incredibly busy man with business commitments both here, in Wales and I believe beyond that.   He must at some stage I am sure regretted his own willingness to help us as processing dates came round  -  but despite his pressures he always managed to get the “G.T” to the printer to ensure delivery to you on time.   I, with I am sure all of you, am very grateful to Dean for his dedicated help to our Grampound community.   Now the situation has changed again as CHRIS  finds himself able to take the job back just as Dean is pleased to hand it back.   My personal concern that it will have to be sent in rough form to America for processing is as many of you will realise not a concern at all   -   by email it will arrive on Chris’s computer in the USA in the same seconds it would take to get from “Patrochal” to “Tremethick”!.  It’s just everyday technology to the young generation but sadly I must admit it is mind-boggling to me!

Did you find our edition 50 Quiz a bit difficult -  I guess you did as entries were down.   Seeing as its Summer we have decided not to include a Quiz in this edition   -   but be ready because it will return in time for Christmas 2009.

Editor’s Apology………..

On page 37 of the Christmas 2008 edition of “The Grampound Times” I wrote that Mr. Jack Nile’s Granfer JOHN NILE was sadly lost at sea when a German Submarine sunk H.M.S Courageous.   I do apologise  -  John Nile was in fact Jack Nile’s Father.
