Here is an interesting and I thought amusing little poem from her book “With Rhyme and Reason” by CLARICE WESTLAKE with the rather topical title :

POLLUTION

“Pollution?” said the chairman of the meeting
“Is undoubtedly a sin and a disgrace
You’d think that people really would know better”
And he puffed his cigar smoke into my face.
“Pollution?” said the Captain of the tanker
“Is a constant source of grief and pain to me,
I cannot think why people are so thoughtless”
And he opened wide his bilges to the sea.
“Pollution?” said the owner of the factory
As he watched his chimneys belch into the sky,
“I really wish I could afford to stop it”
And he walked towards his Bentley with a sigh.
“Pollution?” said the pusher of the hard drugs
“Pollution of the body is a sin”
And he held his hand out ready for the money
As he watched the junkie push the needle in!
