1 ST GRAMPOUND GUIDES

Once again a busy term. We have had a talk on recycling by Richard Bowers, a visit from Geoff and Chris Brown who have been involved with the Coastguard service for the last 35 years who discussed water safety, a visit to Porthpean Outdoor centre where the Guides were able to have a go at Wall Climbing and Archery, some outdoor cooking and lots of badges being earned.

Some of the Guides went and took part in the Royal Cornwall Show Messenger Service and must have had a good time because they all want to go back next year.

When we began in April 2006 we had several Guides who joined us who were 13. With Guides being for girls age 10 – 14 we are now finding as they get to 14 they still have lots they want to achieve as Guides and want to stay on, so in September when we start a new term these girls will all work in one group as a Senior Patrol. This will enable the younger Guides to become Patrol Leaders and Seconds. If we have enough staying or anymore wanting to join us at an older age there is a possibility of starting Rangers. This will run alongside Guides but the girls will work more independently.

Following our awakened interest in recycling we are now starting a specialised collection ourselves and the success of this will serve as a fund-raising opportunity for our Company as well as helping the environment. Will you please collect for the 1 st Grampound Guides

Used Mobile Phones & Printer Ink Cartridges

Our collection point will be at No. 2 Pepo Lane, Grampound, or you can hand to any member of the Guide Company.

Once again I am pleased to take this opportunity to thank the members of the Guiding team, who are SYLVIA MCKAY, SAM SHEARING and AMANDA EDGE.

If you would like any information about us please call me on 01726 882877

JULIE BLAYNEY.

Here are some personal messages passed to me from some members of the 1 st Grampound Guide Company for which I thank them.

HOLLY RABEY says: I’ve been in Guides about a year and I’ve enjoyed it. I like the fundraiser events and all the activities like canoeing. One day I would like to go camping with Guides. I hope I do.

BRYONY LEATHES says: I joined the Guides last September and since then it’s been fantastic. I’ve made loads of new friends and done many new things including climbing, a Fashion Show, archery, bowls, celebrated Guides World Thinking Day, pottery painting and learnt about recycling and water safety. My favourite thing so far was taking part in the Royal Cornwall Show Messenger Service. I enjoyed it because I had never been to the show before so it was good to look around and have fun. I can’t wait to complete more Guiding activities.

CARRIE PEARCE says: Come and join the 1 st Grampound Guides because you will have so much fun and you will never get bored. We do many activities like rock climbing, archery and very many more.

ZENA CLARK says: What I have enjoyed in Guides is all the cool activities we have done as a team. We get to respond to each other and get to know about each other. It shows what we can do as a team and what kind of skills we have. I don’t have a dislike or like - I just enjoy everything we do.

JADE STILL says: In Grampound Guides we carry out a lot of fun activities. I am going to tell you two of my favourite things that took place this year. My first was a Fashion Show, because we got to design and make our own outfit out of recycled materials and walk down the catwalk in front of family and friends. The second was the combined activities of archery and rock climbing. The instructors were kind and helpful and I have always liked wall and rock climbing. Archery was fun because the bows were easier to control and we played a fun game called ‘Cakes’.

LAURA BLAYNEY says: My favourite activity with Guides this term was the archery because it was my first time and I found it easier that I expected.
