The 2 nd of June 2007 was a very happy day at our Parish Church of St. Crida when DARREN ERNEST HEATHER of Creed Farm married. HELEN KAY CREWS of Grampound Road. Daughters AMANDA and SAMANTHA were Bridesmaids and son RHYS who was supported in his duties by the groom’s father ERNEST was Best Man. Proudly attending the Marriage Service also were Ernest’s wife WENDY and Mother ENID . Following their Reception at the Hotel Victoria, Newquay, the couple honeymooned in Funchal, Madeira. That however, was not the end of the Heather Family very special weekend as following the Wedding all the guests remained for the Baptism Service for young RHYS NEIL DAVID HEATHER. Many Congratulations!
More Congratulations!!
The 10 th June was another joyous day at Creed Church when SHARON and ADRIAN ROBERTS brought their daughter AMY TRYPHENA to be baptised. The ceremony took place during a Holy Communion Service held there. Amy, Grand-daughter of CHRISTINE , was Christened in the presence also of her Great Grand Parents DOREEN and JACK NILE , of Quarry Parc, Grampound. It was a beautiful day!
Not so long ago the area of Grampound where I live, Old Hill, it is true to say was home to many of us older folk but that has now changed and we have a larger number of young families again and we are blessed with the presence of many young children. Our latest good news has come from JOHNNY BULLOCK and his partner DEBBIE, resident at Carenza Cottage, Old Hill, who on the 14 th May welcomed into our world their new daughter RUBY TUESDAY LAURA . Most folk who enter hospital leave expressing their gratitude to the Doctors and Nurses who looked after them and Debbie told me of her pleasure at her daughter’s birth and for the care given to her at both Penrice Hospital and Treliske Hospital. Many Congratulations Debbie and Johnny.
Well done and Congratulations to KEZIAH DAVIES of “Lindley”, Fore Street, Grampound. Keziah took part in a schools competition to design a stained glass window for the chapel of the new Roseland Parc retirement village in Tregony. The theme set for the competition was ‘Celebrating Grandparents’. Her design was judged to be one of the winners and as a result her school received a present of £100 which was spent on Art materials. On the 17 th June Keziah was an honoured guest at a Service and ceremony in the new Chapel at Roseland Parc to bless the new windows that have been put in place there. Bishop Bill Ind attended together with Keziah’s Grandma who must surely have been a very proud lady. I must say that having seen photographs of the windows they are indeed beautiful. I have not printed the photograph here as the black and white production of this paper would in no way do credit to Keziah’s incredible work.
Our Congratulations are now extended to yachtsman supreme JEREMY TETLEY OF Garlenick who recently entered the AZAB race with his friend Chris Vickery from Taunton, and finally completed the sea course arriving back at Falmouth after what can only be described as an horrendous voyage. Mr. Tetley’s aim was to raise funds for the Padstow Royal National Lifeboat Institution. This aim was achieved despite circumstances ranging against his efforts in almost every conceivable way!
The first problem created was as the result of a fall prior to the trip causing him to break a bone in his leg, then as he sailed into the Azores his crew partner Chris Vickery, fortunately a surgeon by profession, dislocated his elbow. The return journey to Falmouth tried their strength and expertise to the very limit as on the third day a fellow competitor sailing single-handed fell on his boat and broke a bone in his hand. The only possible action was to abandon racing intent and go to his aid which is what they did. Serious gear failures on his own boat, huge stormy seas and 35 knot winds created further problems that made the return part of the voyage a little short of a nightmare! Congratulations hardly seem sufficient for such an epic undertaking - if it was me I would most certainly now be remustering to landlubber status!!
Congratulations to the Players and Officers of Grampound A.F.C
