GRAMPOUND’S CHURCHES OF ST. NUN & ST. CRIDA
Parochial Church Council Report

On Sunday 27 th May, Probus Church was filled to celebrate the retirement of IAN MORRIS as our Rector. Members of all four parishes together with volunteers from the National Maritime Museum at Falmouth, another of Ian’s interests, gathered at the church for a sung Communion Service with contributions from all the parishes. This was followed by coffee in the church, and then a lunch in the local school when presentations were made to Ian.

Ian’s leaving means that we have to advertise for a new Rector for the four parishes, a procedure which usually starts after the last holder leaves. However, Ian agreed that the parishes could start before he left so the Church Councils started preparing their requirements for a new rector earlier in the year. Although working independently it was surprising how close the four sets of requirements were. These will now be passed to the Diocese who will advertise and produce a short list of candidates who will be interviewed and hopefully one appointed by a small joint committee. This procedure will probably take about six months if everything goes to plan. Our thanks have already been passed to Ian for allowing an early start.

We should also thank our four retired vicars, our lay readers and worship leaders for maintaining the level of services and hope they will be able to continue to help the new rector.

Congratulations too, for the leaders of the Sunday Club who this year celebrate ten years of continual services, and have maintained and even increased the number of young people taking part. Long may they continue.

We hope to have our usual stall at the Carnival Day Fete again this year. Please do support it on the day - SATURDAY, the 1 st SEPTEMBER, especially if you are able to assist with the preparation - helpers are always wanted.

The Sunday following the Carnival, that is the 8 th September, is the annual church cycle ride raising money for the Cornwall Historic Churches Trust raising funds to help churches with their repairs. Last year the Trust gave £42,000 to churches within the Diocese and we were helped the previous year with
£4,000 towards the roof repairs at Creed. The Trust is delighted the HRH The Prince of Wales has agreed to be their Patron for the next five years which it is hope3d will help to promote the work of the Trust. Your help with donations to our representative riders will be appreciated, and information can be obtained from members of the Parochial Church Council.
