Verges and Flowerbeds

A few years ago the grass verges alongside the A.390 entering into Grampound were an unsightly mess. Cut by the County Council just twice in a year proved to be quite inadequate to maintain them to a reasonable standard; stepping forward came TONY DAVIES who voluntarily took over the work. Tony having now vacated that arduous task new volunteers were needed. It is a mark of the quality of our village community spirit that having viewed the areas today I found them neatly mown and a delight to the eye. People who do such good work for the pleasure of their fellows often do not seek for recognition, but as a community paper the “Grampound Times” insists on its right to acknowledge the excellent work voluntarily done for the good of others and to offer our “Sincere thanks and Congratulations” to those who keep our roadside areas looking so good - but who are they? Well. I can acknowledge the efforts of PETER HARDAKER, GEOFF HODGSON, & JOE FRYER

Because I have witnessed them toiling, but is there anyone else that I am not aware of - please let me know for next time. The Fore Street flower beds are appreciated by locals and motorists passing through alike and have become a feature of Grampound. Having been the stalwart of the original plantings our thanks are due to TINA TYLER

Now however, we must look to the present and to the future if the beds are to continue to be the pleasure that they have been. Sadly with flowers, weeds also grow which means that ongoing T.L.C is required to keep things looking nice. Is there a more boring task than weeding - certainly not to me. Particular thanks are due in this respect to MARGARET & PETER LUNDIE, TIM LOBB & JANE SLOAN .

To all of these people and indeed anyone else who has helped keep Grampound looking great, our thanks and congratulations.
