The Grampound Times

Grampound Community Hall

My thanks and congratulations to our incredibly efficient and dedicated Hall Development Officer SIMON FANN for continuing his excellent work on all our behalfs in keeping the new hall busy and earning its keep - a far from easy or even straightforward task when taking into account the buildings dual use as our village hall and its Grampound School commitment. Those of you who have already experienced the high quality of productions that have visited will be delighted to read the following report that SIMON has provided which shows the exciting prospects for the near future. If you haven’t yet shown your support please consider doing so with the new programme - you won’t regret it!!

GRAMPOUND NEW HALL REPORT
By SIMON FANN
Hall Development Officer

The Hall will continue to host many diverse activities over the coming months, hopefully supplying something for everyone. Here is a taster of what is coming up:

OAP Club: At the time of going to press there is a meeting for anyone interested in the usage of the hall for the more mature residents of Grampound. This will take place on Tuesday 25 th July from 1 - 3pm in the Hall. Of course by the time you read this report the meeting will have taken place and I hope many of you will have turned up with your suggestions and ideas. The Christmas “Grampound Times” will I hope contain good news in this respect.

At the other end of the spectrum I will be asking CYMAZ to run a School of Rock in the hall, each afternoon from Monday 7 th to Friday 11 th August. At time of going to press demand for this is being assessed prior to finalisation. I hope for good support for this but due to “Grampound Times” distribution times you will know about this before being able to read this notice.

Most of our regular bookings continue in the evenings during the summer, although the Pilates classes will take a break until September. Anyone with any question about what is happening and when can call me on the telephone number printed at the end of this report.

Autumn & Winter Entertainment Programme

To continue our now established reputation as an attractive venue for drama and entertainment I am arranging the following. Please note the events marked DEFINITE are where contracts have been signed; the others have a verbally agreed date but remain subject to contractual confirmation at time of writing.

Saturday Sept 23rd 2006: Richard Durrant – The Guitar Whisperer DEFINITE

An evening concert featuring different styles of musical influence. Richard is a classically trained accomplished guitarist (for example touring with Sky) and his appearance in Grampound will establish our reputation for attracting superb musical as well as dramatic acts. For more information please see Richard-durrant.com on the internet.

Saturday October 7 th 2006: Tins and Fishes - verbally agreed.

This year sees 10 sites in Cornwall are attaining World Heritage Site Status. To commemorate this a review has been put together celebrating the tin mining and fishing heritage of Cornwall. This review was originally intended only to be played in halls in the ten areas, of which Grampound is not one. However, I have asked for it to come here as I feel sure there would be a strong demand for an evening with such a traditional theme. A unique, probably unrepeatable event not to be missed.

Thursday 9 th November 2006: Kneehigh Theatre - Journey To The Centre Of The Earth - verbally agreed.

A new twist on the famous story. Anyone who has seen Kneehigh production will know their reputation for innovative, professional and stimulating shows. Although they are touring with this elsewhere it is great for Grampound to secure one of their dates in the tour and a splendid show for all is expected.

Saturday 2 nd Dec 2006: Storyworks Theatre - The Ice Maiden - DEFINITE

A magical show for children with a wonderful story and style of performance. This should be a lovely show which would appeal to children, young teenage and adults alike.

Saturday 7 th January 2007: Miracle Theatre – The Time Machine verbally agreed

The return of Miracle, after Aladdin and Case of the Frightened Lady, is very welcome. This time they will present their version of another classic story.

++ Please note tickets will be available from me or Shop & Post Office (thanks again to GRAHAM & JENNY) and I will circulate more information on times and prices closer to the events. Please watch for posters in the shop, pub, Atlantis, doctors, Pet Shop etc.

One for the future - I have been told about a local Comedy Improvisation troupe along the lines of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” which used to be on television. If reviews are good they may be coming here!

As ever the Hall Committee remain fully supportive of all activities in the Hall. For all events such as the above to be successful it is a tribute to everyone who volunteers to help setting up, selling tickets or supporting in other ways. Grampound has a great community and it is intended that the Hall will continue to be the focus of many community events.
