In this 42 nd edition of the “Grampound Times” I record our sad farewells to:
MRS. ESME JARRETT, J.P. of Oak Vale, Grampound, who died on the 15 th April 2006. Her Funeral Service was held at Creed Parish Church on the 25 th April and was followed by a private family Cremation Service at Penmount Crematorium Truro. Throughout her life, and since moving to Grampound some 4 years ago, Mrs. Jarrett was a supporter of many aspects of community life, and at the time of her death had just commenced a second term of office as a popular President of the Grampound Women’s Institute where she is greatly missed.
MR. ARTHUR GEOFFREY COLEMAN . A resident of our neighbouring village of Sticker, Geoff was known to many here as a previous player over many seasons for our football club. When his playing days were over he returned many times to officiate as an official referee for League games. He was a great servant to Cornish football, refereeing long beyond the years when many would have retired and always maintaining an active interest in the game promoting and supporting referees throughout.
MRS. JOANNA EDNA HORE of Trewinnow passed away peacefully at home on the 21 st May 2006. Her Funeral Service was held at the St. Mewan Parish Church on Thursday the 25 th May and this was followed by interment at the St. Austell Cemetery.
MR. ELDRED ARTHUR GRIGG formally of Trevillick, Grampound, and lately resident at the Kenwyn Nursing Home, passed away peacefully there on the 26 th June, 2006. Having reached the magnificent age of 97 years Mr. Grigg’s Funeral Service was held at the Creed Parish Church on the 4 th July 2006 and was followed by interment in the Churchyard there.
MR. CHARLES HENRY DANNING . Although it is many years since Henry lived here in Grampound he was nevertheless known well by many people here. He passed away peacefully at The Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske on the 12 th July 2006 at the age of 66 years. His Funeral Service was held at St. Mewan Church, St. Austell, on the 26 th July 2006.
MRS. VERA WEBB (Nee BRAGG ). Peacefully after a short illness, at her home Mrs. Webb passed away on the 26 th July 2006. Her Funeral Service took place at St. Nun’s Church, Grampound, on the 3 rd August, 2006 and was followed by a Private Family Cremation Service at Penmount Crematorium. For many years Vera was a stalwart member of the Ladies Section of the Grampound Bowling Club. With her husband CLIFFORD she worked tirelessly for Charity, forming a group of friends and providing musical entertainment around the area, and raising many hundreds of pounds for the Mount Edgcumbe Hospice.
