Hello Everybody,
As has become the custom over recent years my editorial ramblings have been relegated off the first page in favour of our Carnival Chairman, who in the Summer, pre-Carnival edition of “The Grampound Times” always gets the magazine pages moving. I must say that I find it disconcerting, as you should also, that once again one of the most successful events in the Grampound calendar has a shadow hanging over it. Last year I thought the Recreation Ground on Carnival Day was a most impressive sight - neat and colourful awnings at the Fete with Committee members looking smart and efficient in their new embroidered tops. Chairman BILL COLLINS has given a clear warning however, the Committee having reduced in numbers to such a low state does not bode well for the future unless……………Grampound’s Carnival must surely be the envy of very many places, and not just small village communities, so come on folks, take a turn at the wheel, after all many hands make lighter work!
The “G.T.” Management Committee remain grateful to all the business people who continue to support this paper by taking out advertising space, and of course those dedicated readers who help the paper by making cash donations towards the production costs.
You may not have realised that for each edition of the “G.T” that arrives at your address, at least 15 Grampound folk have made some voluntary contribution towards its ultimate delivery. That’s the truth and does not include contributors of copy or advertisers!
It is also true that when you have been doing something for a long time, new ideas become scarce, but are of course vital to future success. After 42 editions of this magazine I do claim to be heading rather quickly towards the desperation stage. Perhaps you have some ideas that could help - if so please drop me a line!
I hope you enjoy “Grampound Times No. 42”.
ROGER PAYNTER
Hon. Editor.
