Heritage Centre – thanks to the hard work of the Heritage Centre Working Party, additional grant funding has been secured from Sita Cornwall Trust Ltd and Restormel Borough Council. This will enable restoration work on the upper floor of the Town Hall to be undertaken. Miss Elisabeth Chard has been appointed as the Heritage Centre’s part-time Project Co-ordinator/Researcher and an article from her appears elsewhere in the Grampound Times.
Roadside Bollards – Philip Freer has offered his services to clean, prepare and paint the bollards in Fore Street. If you can help Philip, please contact Cllr. Jane Sloan – many hands make light work, as the saying goes!
Calor Cornwall Village of the Year Competition – the judges of the regional heat of the competition will be in Grampound on Friday, 25th April 2008. Hardworking, Jane Sloan, is organising the event and will be in touch with village organisations shortly. It would be tremendous if we could get through to the national heat.
Flowerbeds – repairs to the flowerbeds in Fore Street have been carried out. I am sure you will agree, the spring display this year is looking very, well, spring-like – thanks in no small part to the weeding and digging done by Cllr. Jane Sloan. She is to be joined in the task by Mrs Patricia Darlington, who has volunteered her services. Her husband, Harry, has offered to give the seat (outside the Town Hall) a lick of varnish. Our thanks to them both.
Fal River Footpath – Trewithen Estates has apologised for erecting the “dogs on leads” sign along the public footpath, by the river – the Council received several complaints on this matter and the Estate was swift to remove the offending signs. However, the Estate does seek residents’ support in keeping dogs under control.
Manor Tannery – since the last report to the Grampound Times, a public meeting has been held to seek the views of residents for this proposed development, following which the Parish Council gave their support to the planning applications before them, with some provisos (not least their concerns about the Bosillion Lane/Fore Street junction). At this point in time Restormel have yet to make their decision and the outcome is unknown.
Allotments – ten residents have put their names forward as being interested in acquiring allotments. At this stage, the Parish Council is awaiting the outcome of the Manor Tannery planning application, as it is possible that land may be made available, should the project get the go ahead.
