Hello. I’m Liz, and I started as the part time Community Heritage Centre Project Co-ordinator in January 2008. We kicked off the project with a fabulous open evening attended by well over 50 people from the village, and it was brilliant to see so many people wanting to take part and know more.
As you should be aware the project is to help the community create a heritage centre in the town hall for the whole community to use. So now we need your input and ideas. What do you want to see in your heritage centre? What bits of your village’s history do you want to see included? Are you potty about Romans? Are you intrigued by industry? Do you want to celebrate carnivals through the ages? Do you want the use of a community computer/internet point or reference library? What would you put in an introduction film about your village? Please pass on your comments to the parish councillors, or write to me a comment in the post offices volunteer signing up page.
We are recruiting volunteers and although we have quite a few signed up already we need as many as we can get our hands on. So if you haven’t already volunteered and fancy doing something a bit different, pop into the village shop and sign up!
The project is going to last between 12 and 18 months in which time an oral history recording team will be out and about, so get your reminisces ready. We will be creating a digital photographic archive of Grampound related photographs for everyone to view based at the town hall. We have a history research group that will be researching the history of this fascinating village and we are also hoping to have some great social events for the whole village to come along and support.
I will also be working with the local schools and clubs societies, trying to get as many people involved as possible, so if you have a great idea for things to include in the project, or want to lend a hand, do just drop me an email (whealmartyn@hotmail.com) or see any of the parish councillors. This is your project and your village so why not get involved, you never know what new skills you might uncover!
