GRAMPOUND CARNIVAL COMMITTEE

I would like to thank everybody who supported the committee at various events throughout last year, and hope those who attended enjoyed themselves.

Thank you to all who took part in creating a garden or window display for the Christmas lights competition, the results were as follows:

Best Window:
1ST                                No. 2 Pepo Lane
Highly Commended       Meadow Cottage, Fore Street.

Best Business:
1st                                 The Hollies Store & Post Office
Highly Commended       Atlantis Smoked Fish.

Best House & Garden:
1st                                 Parc Marris, Bosillion Lane
Highly Commended       No. 3 New Hill Estate.

Well done to all of the above and to Grampound School whose display was at The Hollies Store and Post Office.

Our first event for 2008 was a Quiz held in the hall. A very enjoyable evening with 8 teams taking part. Some should obviously be on the T.V ‘Beat the Eggheads’ quiz or the Weakest Link! Hopefully we can fit another quiz in later in the year with maybe a battle of the sexes format, Men v Women. Well I can’t think who would win that one…… Must say a huge thank you to SIMON FANN our quizmaster for the evening, he did a fantastic job as usual.

Calling all children, big and small; we will be holding our Easter Treasure Hunt on the 25th March at 2pm in the Recreation Ground. We will also be holding some other competitions on the same day. These will include:

Easter Bonnet Competition for adults and children, also best cake – adult, best buns – children and best decorated egg - but its also how far you can throw it! Look out for fliers and posters.

More events coming soon will include a Bingo and Horse Race Night - again look out for fliers.

Our Grand Auction this year will again be held in the Dolphin Inn by kind permission of Paul and Shelly and this will be on Friday the 13th June. If you have any good quality items or a Promise that we can use, please get in touch with me on 882284, BOB EGERTON 884451 or SIMON FANN 883874.

We have been working hard already to book bands and entertainment for the Carnival and it all seems to be going very well. We hope to be able to provide even more for you this year and that is why we keep on fundraising - so please keep supporting us.

The Committee would like to hear from any of the younger community who would like to be our Carnival Royalty this year. The criteria are:

Carnival Queen 12 years and over;
Carnival Queen Attendants 8 years to 11 years;
Fairy Queen, Fairy King and Attendants 7 years and under.

Anyone with any questions or interest, please call me on 882284.

Many thanks.
DONNA STILL.
