On the 22nd of January 2008 I attended the Annual General Meeting of the GRAMPOUND SPORTS & CARNIVAL COMMITTEE. I have always felt that the A.G.M of an organisation is an opportunity for folk to show support and appreciation for the Committee, and I was pleased that I was not alone with that thought this year as far as Carnival is concerned.
The meeting clearly showed two important facts, firstly like many other organisations the Carnival could do with more folk willing to join its Committee, but secondly, and perhaps as important, it enjoys excellent support with many people offering their help at events from outside of the Committee. In her report to the A.G.M DONNA STILL, Chair to the Committee emphasised the excellent work of her Committee through the past year in providing events suitable for many tastes, but also essential to raise funds to allow a successful Carnival Day to take place. She went on to express her thanks and that of her Committee to all those who had given their support over the past year, too many to mention individually. There were however a few that Donna felt needed special mention and she went on to commend the very special co-operation provided by PAUL and SHELLY at the Dolphin Inn, allowing their premises to be used for special events and for their financial contributions. JENNY and GRAHAM GINGELL at the Village Post Office and Stores had greatly assisted the Committee by selling raffle tickets, donating prizes and providing advertising as well as invaluable help in handling the wheelbarrow full of coins that resulted from Carnival Day. Donna’s thanks were then recorded to CRAIG and the lads from AUSSIE MARQUEES for providing the excellent tentage for Carnival Day Fete, to PETER and MARGARET LUNDIE who had become such stalwart members of the Committee providing support and encouragement over the past year, and finally to TONY DAVIES for his electronics expertise and in particular erecting the illuminated cross on the Town Hall at Christmas, an item so appreciated around the community at that time of the year. Donna ended her report by stating that Carnival 2007 had been a great success, and it was my view certainly that nobody could argue with that!
Completing his first year as Treasurer, BOB EGERTON was able to give a totally uplifting financial report. The excellent total of assets amounting to £3,345 handed over to his charge by the retiring Treasurer JOE FRYER had risen to over £5.509 this year. He reported that it was the policy of the Carnival Committee to reinvest surpluses into improved facilities to try and ensure a bigger and better Carnival each year. In 2008 it was planned to purchase a better quality marquee suitable for use if weather is bad and there was also an intention to spend more on entertainment during the Carnival Fete.
It was very pleasing that the election of officers to serve the Carnival for 2008 went very easily with no important posts left vacant. Those elected were:
CHAIRMAN: DONNA STILL
VICE CHAIRMAN: SIMON FANN
TREASURER: BOB EGERTON
SECRETARY: SYLVIA McKAY
GENERAL COMMITTEE: JOHN SWEETMAN
DIANE HANNAM,
PETER LUNDIE
MARGE LUNDIE
MIKE COMPTON

RONNIE McLASKEY
The following people expressed their willingness to provide help and support outside of the Committee: JANE SLOAN, DELLA STOVELL, JENNY GINGELL, KEVIN BLAYNEY, JIM WOODMAN, LIZ JULEFF.
