The Grampound Bowling Club is one of the oldest and most successful organisations to be found here, and in this year of 2008 it has entered into a new phase of its remarkable history by appointing for the first time a lady to the position of Club Chairman. On everyone’s behalf I offer MRS. JOAN THOMAS our congratulations and very best wishes for her future success, and of course the same wishes extend to the club and its members. Here is the Chairman’s first report……..
With Spring now upon us we are looking forward to the outdoor season having had at least five new members that have already joined us. We would welcome more and could give some coaching to start you off if you require it.
Please join us on our Summer Season Opening Day on Saturday April 12th at 2pm, where I know you will be made most welcome.
Our Annual Dinner was again held at the Pier House Hotel, Charlestown, and was organised by MRS. ELSPETH SUMMERS; many thanks to her and all who supported the event.
During the evening Trophies were presented by MR. RON HICKS our Club President.
Short Mat bowls has been enjoyed over the winter months and has been well supported with the revenue helping in the running of the club.
We were unable to carry out our “Carol Singing” evening last Christmas but a donation will be made to the Merlin Project after our ‘Opening Day’ in lieu.
The outdoor season is again going to be very busy with the men having two teams playing in the Divisions.
The Ladies would like to achieve success again this year and hopefully the new members will enjoy the experience.
May I wish you all good health, and good bowling.
JOAN THOMAS (Chairman)
