The Grampound with Creed Parish Council sponsored entry into the competition 2 years ago, and despite excellent community support on that occasion we didn’t quite make it. Last year however, was a different story, and success was ours. Winning that competition put Grampound into the tougher Regional stage - where cash can be part of the reward for effort!

Your Parish Council has decided that our community is fully deserving of national recognition and on its behalf Councillor JANE SLOAN has sent the letter which I am very pleased to print below for you to read.(Ed.)

TO THE EDITOR GRAMPOUND TIMES.

Dear Roger,

Grampound - Best Village

As a result of being judged the Best Village in Cornwall, Grampound is now entered into the South West competition, and possibly the National final.

Thanks to all who have helped so far, we now need your help again to impress the judges that we really are the best in the country!

The judging for the next stage is at 9.30am – 11.30am on Friday 25th April 2008. We are hoping that as many clubs, organisations and individuals as possible will help to show just how great is the community spirit in Grampound.

We have already seen how fantastic has been the response to the request for helpers with the Heritage Project and it is hoped this too will impress the judges.

Although it is not the Best Kept Village competition, it would be great if we can make sure that Grampound, and in particular Fore Street, is looking as clean, tidy and attractive as possible. I will do what I can with the flowerbeds, (I would always welcome help here!). We hope to repaint the bollards up and down the street. Hopefully, also all the litter and dead leaves will disappear.

The school has pledged support and they have kindly agreed to let us have use of the community hall for the morning. If you belong to a club or other organisation, please try to provide an exhibition of your activities. I will be writing to all the clubs to give more details.

We know that Grampound is GREAT. Please help convince the judges when they visit.
