Without any preamble we were soon into the New Year and the January business which had been circulated. After attending to same we then settled down to an entertaining talk by Mrs. Jane Mills entitled “Instant Dishes for Reluctant Cooks”. This was an inspirational subject after all the Christmas preparations and many of the recipes and dishes demonstrated were noted and taken to try at home.
Signs of Spring were apparent even in early February and much of our conversation was of holidays, decorating and garden projects. Before partaking of our buffet we were given a talk entitled “Waste Minimisation”. We thought this would be rather dull but it turned out to be quite the contrary - indeed, we were full of good intentions regarding recycling etc., and thanks were given to the speaker for making it so interesting. This month too we again had the pleasure of attending our annual birthday dinner, always a successful and enjoyable evening.
With March upon us we once again held our A|nnual Meeting when we nominate our new President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as our forthcoming committee members for the coming year of May 2007 to April 2008. This is always a busy evening but we then relax, socialise and close the evening with our buffet. However, the main thrustg for March is the “Spring Countdown” held at the Hall For Cornwall on the 6 th March. Members from all the Cornish Institutes are represented to listen to the Cornwall Federation of Women’s Institutes budget with experts speaking on the 2007 Resolution prior to the National A.G.M, this being the “Great Milk Debate” which concerns farm gate milk prices, so vitally important not only to rural areas but the country as a whole. There are of course many items of interest included in the afternoon programme as well as individual presentations, etc. The meeting concludes with a super raffle before departing to our respective W.I’s.
April seems to be full of events of interest such as our involvement in the Royal Cornwall Show, many competitions and some events covering several days. These involve a London trip visiting places of interest on the journey, a County tour, a stay in Jersey or Guernsey plus a fashion show, Floral Art day school, or, if you are fit, the Archdale Table Tennis Tournament in which to participate.
However, before contemplating the above tours etc., we must return to our April meeting and to a talk given by Mr. R. McBryde on “Cornish Mining” which is of such interest to many of us.
There are many more projects on our agenda yet to be considered but before taking up our new regime we hope everyone enjoys Easter and the coming Summer months.
