If your curry is too hot, add some plain yoghurt.

If you have a splinter in your hand, put Scotch tape over it and pull off. No need to dig with a needle!

To clean varnished woodwork just wipe gently with a cloth soaked in strong cold tea.

When grilling lots of sausages thread them all on to a skewer so it takes no time to turn them under the grill.

To stop cherries sinking when you make a fruit cake, coat them in flour before adding them to the cake mixture.

If you can’t undo a rusty screw rub it with a drop of vinegar - it should soon loosen up.

Next time you make custard use moist brown sugar instead of white - it gives the custard a delicious caramel flavour.

If you stainless steel sink and drainer are looking dull just rub them over with half a lemon.

To remove paint from your hands after decorating spray the splashes with furniture polish. The paint will slide off easily.

Try using mincemeat in place of dried fruit when making fruit scones - extra fruity and moist as well!
