You will have read in previous editions of “The Grampound Times” of proposals to form a club where the residents in the community could get together regularly during the daytime. It is a pleasure to report that the Senior Citizens’ Club is now up and running. There has been an enthusiastic response to the fortnightly meetings held in the Community Hall on Tuesdays between 1pm and 3pm. The club has at its disposal both the main hall and the committee room, which allows for a variety of activities.
To date participants have enjoyed a talk by DAVID BANNISTER on the National Trust property at Trerice, which proved illuminating in the detail, which his experience could reveal. Similarly, BERYL DAVIES renowned horticultural knowledge was as fascinating as it was instructive.
A Quiz with a difference was much appreciated and a most informative talk by ALISON MICHELMORE of The Countryside Interlink Project provided many ideas for future activities. These could include craft classes, gentle exercise, excursions, luncheons and talks as the club progresses.
As important as the core activities is the opportunity for a friendly chat over a cup of tea or coffee in a very informal atmosphere. The group is currently searching for a different name, which will reflect the fact that it is open to anyone who has the time to come along and spend a pleasant couple of hours with their neighbours in Grampound.
WHY NOT COME ALONG AND GIVE IT A TRY?
