The Grampound Times

1st GRAMPOUND RAINBOWS

This term has been mostly indoor activities for the Rainbows. On the 22 nd of February we celebrated World Thinking Day. Some of the members of the Truro Tregothnan District’s Rainbows, Brownies and Guides gathered at Grampound Village Hall to celebrate the birthday of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, the founders of World Guiding.

The girls were split into 3 groups and rotated around a set of activities; they learnt some traditional campfire songs, made a Union Jack flag, learnt how to tie 3 different knots and made a World Guiding Badge.

Also we went to watch the Probus pantomime, Little Red Riding Hood, which some of the Rainbows, current and past were in.

Other activities this term have included crafts, singing, a quiz and games.

One Rainbow session was used to start working towards our 20 th Birthday badge. We have 4 challenges covering the four sections of Rainbows, Look, Learn, Laugh and Love. The first challenge was to look at 20 fruit and vegetables, the Rainbows really enjoyed this evening especially the tasting part, we chose some unusual fruits as well as ones that were familiar to the Rainbows such as Lychee, melon, pineapple, avocado and pomegranate. Vegetables included butternut squash, sweet potatoes and leeks.

There are lots of events celebrating 20 years of Rainbows, the main one being the County Party, which is going to be at the Royal Cornwall show ground in July. The theme is to be Pink Princesses.

I would like to thank SYLVIA McKAY for her continued support and also LAURA BLAYNEY and JADE STILL who continually give up their time to come and assist us with Rainbows.
