s many of you will know, for the past few years we have been raising money and trying to obtain grants to renew and refurbish the children’s play area. This has been a fairly slow process, and so far we haven’t been able to obtain big grants to get us near the £25,000 which we need.
However, thanks to the efforts of individual children and groups within our community, donations from individuals, the Parish Council and Imerys we now have nearly £3,100.
We made the decision that we should use this to buy one new piece of equipment in the short-term so that the children who have helped to raise money will get some enjoyment from it before they are too old, and seeing some progress will hopefully re-motivate the fundraising.
Children in the village were asked to choose between three pieces of equipment, and the assault wall was the favourite choice. We have now contacted Taylor Made, a Newquay-based company to order the equipment. A site visit has been arranged for early March and we will be asking for the equipment to be installed as soon as possible.
After purchasing this piece of equipment we will also have a boost to get our next phase of fundraising off the ground; we have been awarded £1000 by Cornwall Playing Fields Association which will be presented to us in May.
Fundraising efforts really depend on YOU. There are currently only 3 of us involved in this project and none of us have a great deal of time available to organise fund-raising events, and just completing grant applications can be a lengthy business!
