Congratulations!

To “ THE GRAMPOUND DIPPERS” that incredible group of friends who, as most of us settle down to enjoy Christmas Day, take themselves off to the seaside and go for a dip, whatever the weather - or the temperature!!

Founded four years ago, and comprising friends who enjoy a drink at The Dolphin Inn, the group put their money where their goose pimples were, and as a result of their swimming and just occasional language slips, raised a truly magnificent sum of money for charity. So far this has amounted to £4000 for the Neo-natal Ward at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Treliske, £1000 for Marie Curie Nurses, and the British Lung Foundation and the British Heart Foundation have also been very substantial beneficiaries.

Rest assured that when the icy tipped waves roll in again next Christmas, Grampound’s Dippers will again be rushing to get an appetite for their Christmas Dinner. Now that we all know of their exploits, how about contributing to their charity pot next December - it will surely make your own lunch taste better.

To JOSEPH (JOE) FRYER of “Trevartha” Fore Street, Grampound, who has been nominated by the Grampound with Creed Parish Council to the Mayor of Restormel as their Citizen of the Year.

Joe has been a tireless worker for several years for the Grampound Carnival Committee which by its work also helps ensure the continued success of other Grampound organisations, providing fund raising opportunities for them within the Carnival celebrations.. Specifically serving as its Treasurer he is to be seen always ahead of events, during events and after events helping with every aspect. He has been an energetic worker with the small group that give voluntary service throughout the year caring for the roadside verges, grass cutting and weeding etc., the pleasing appearance of which has brought gratifying comments from many that pass through Grampound. The children’s play area within the Recreation Ground has also benefited from his public spirited efforts. An invaluable aid to the Grampound Community he is well deserving of the Citizen of the Year recognition.

To MISS LAURA BLAYNEY of No. 2 Pepo Lane, Grampound, who has been nominated by the Grampound with Creed Parish Council to the Mayor of Restormel as its Youth Citizen of the Year. Unfortunately at the time of going to press details of the citation have not been made available to the Grampound Times. It is hoped to include the citation in the Summer edition.

To RACHEL DAVIES of “Lindley” Fore Street, Grampound, who has championed the cause of the Grampound Recreation Ground Children’s Play Area and as a result of her efforts to obtain Grant Aid for the refurbishment project is to receive a cheque for £1000 presented by the Cornwall County Playing Fields Association. The presentation will take place at the Association’s Annual Meeting to be held at The Lanhydrock Golf Club on the 8 th May 2007.

To NORMAN and JOAN MANNELL of No. 6 New Hill Estate, Grampound who on the 29 th March 2007 celebrated 60 years of marriage, their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.

To RONALD (RON) and JEAN HICKS of “Polman”, Fore Street, Grampound, who on the 26 th January 2007 celebrated 50 years of marriage, their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

To MR. LESLIE TOMPKINS who previously lived in Creed Lane, Grampound, and who has now celebrated his 103 rd Birthday. When “The Grampound Times” reported on his achieving his century, Mr. Tompkins was living at the Longview Residential Home at Goonhavern with his dog. Sadly he has now lost his friend and as a result decided to make a fresh start at “Sunningdale Residential Home”, Perranporth.

To: MR. & MRS HENNAH (COLIN & ANNE) of Treleaven Farmhouse, Mevagissey who on the 7 th March were hosts to a great gathering of friends all calling at their address to partake of “Britain’s Biggest Breakfast”. As a result of their effort the magnificent sum of £1000 was donated to the Cancer Research UK Fund. We have a special reason here to send our congratulations to them from The “Grampound Times” this recognises their kind financial support for our magazine over a number of years - and I did enjoy that beautiful breakfast!

To: MATTHEW and JUDITH SMALL OF “Old Hill Cottage” Grampound, on the birth of a beautiful daughter CATHERINE, born on the 31 st December 2006 - a brilliant way to welcome the New Year!
