Parish Meeting – the Parish Meeting (i.e. the residents’ meeting) will be held on 17 th May 2007 in the new Village Hall, commencing at 7.30pm.
Bus Shelter – by the time you read this, the new bus shelter at the bottom of Old Hill should be in situ. We could have installed a cheaper, “plastic” version, but we chose instead to go with something more in keeping with our village. It is worth pointing out that we couldn’t have afforded the shelter (approximately £4,000 in total) if it were not for the negotiating skills of Cllr. Peter Hardaker, who managed to secure the maximum grant from Cornwall County Council and to get Highways to agree to install the base for the shelter, when they were resurfacing Fore Street. He also talked the manufacturer into giving us a substantial discount – not to mention cutting the cost of delivery by more than half, by calling in a favour! As you take shelter from the elements, you may find yourself saying thank you to Peter.
Renewable Energy – following a suggestion from a resident at last year’s Parish Meeting, the Council has been looking at various options for a renewable energy source for the village. We invited Mr Ben Lundie attended one of our meetings to give us some idea of the types of possible sources – wind turbines, solar energy, biomass, etc. We are currently investigating a suggestion from Mr David Rodda, Cornwall Agricultural Council to use farm waste to produce energy.
This is very much a long-term project and you can rest assured that no decision, affecting the village, will be taken without proper consultation with you, the residents.
Calor Village of the Year Competition – in the Council’s last report in the Grampound Times we told you that, unfortunately, we had not won the “ Calor Village of the Year Competition”. However, we have since been awarded a Certificate of Commendation. We may not have won – but all those involved, can take solace in knowing that we did extremely well to have reached the Cornwall finals.
Footpaths –
Creed Church to Golden Footpath - please note that the footpath from Creed Church to Golden is strictly closed during the period 1 st October to 31 st January each year. We only have use of the footpath thanks to the good offices of Trewithen Estates and if the privilege is abused, the right to walk this delightful footpath could be withdrawn. The Parish Council has recently purchased two signs, which should make this requirement clear to walkers, please don’t ignore it.
Footpath Leaflets – the Parish Plan first identified the need for leaflets to encourage more walkers to visit the parish and walk its delightful footpaths. However, the high cost of printing prevented any further action. We have now found a possible grant funding source and we are reasonably hopeful that we will be able to produce a series of four leaflets, in the not too distant future.
