In the Christmas edition I published a letter I had received from MRS. MARY BENNETT which told of the ‘travels’ of each edition of the “G.T” she receives - from Grampound to St. Austell, to Surrey, then back to Threemilestone at Truro! Even that is not the end of the story as will be seen from the following letter I have received from SUSAN STAGG (Nee SPRY)

Dear Mr. Paynter,
With reference to MRS. BENNETTS letter to you in the Grampound Times No. 43, I thought you would like to know that I am SUSAN STAGG (Nee SPRY) mentioned in the letter and that also I send appropriate snippets to my sister SANDRA who lives in Corfu.
I extend a personal thanks to DIANE for sending the magazine to me and also to all those concerned. We are always interested to hear all the Grampound news. May the magazine long continue.
I enclose a £10 donation towards the magazine.
Yours sincerely,
SUSAN STAGG (nee SPRY)
Many thanks for your letter Susan, and of course your generous donation.

Here is an opportunity for us to help LYNNE BENNETT who is a resident a few miles up the road from Grampound, at Hamble near Southampton in fact. Her letter is self explanatory, and if you can help give me call - or if you prefer write to her directly.

Dear Roger,
I saw your great website and I wondered if The Grampound Times, could help me and my family contact the people of Grampound through your pages.
I am researching my family tree and wonder whether anyone in Grampound knows anything about my ancestors the Bennett family, Any, Amy, Wilfred and Clifford are some of the names I have. I believe they may have worked in the Tannery and lived at “ Del Mar”? Any information anyone has, however insignificant it may seem, would be greatly appreciated. I would also love to hear from any Bennetts’ or decendants of the Bennett family. I can be contacted on email at lynnereadingbennett@yahoo.co.uk or at my home address.
Thanking you in anticipation.
LYNNE BENNETT
So there you are folks it’s over to you - I’m sure we can help Lynne.
Elsewhere in this edition I have carried a brief announcement of the sad death of MR. IAN GREGORY DYSON.
I am grateful to MRS. JULIET DYSON for writing the following letter which at her wish I am printing for all our readers.

Dear Roger,
On the 16 th January my husband Ian Gregory lost his battle with the long illness he suffered from.
He died at home where he wanted to be. After donating his body to the Medical School there followed a Cremation at Penmount.
May I please use the Grampound Times to say thank you to the friends and neighbours who have been so supportive and sent such lovely messages to help me through this difficult time. I have been overwhelmed and very very touched.
My best wishes to you and Pat.
Yours sincerely,
JULIET DYSON.
RICHARD SCHOLAR has been an avid reader of this paper since its inception and I must say also a most generous financial supporter, for which on all your behalfs I thank him. Here is a letter I received from him this year .

Dear Roger,
Thanks once more for a year’s supply of the Grampound Times, always a joy to receive and read.
The downside of the Grampound news is reading of those who have died; viz. Johnstone Mitchell, Des Pollard, Raymond Mannell (Rags) and Willie Rowe. Apart from Willie and of course Mrs. James they were comparatively young(ish) men, I find myself pausing and remembering them as they were sixty years ago.
However, the ‘living’ news is good and it is better to look forward.
I hope you both keep well, obviously busy, but that is supposed to be good for the soul.
Marion and I travel annually to Hong Kong (youngest son Andrew) and to California to see David and family. We look forward to this but now find Travel Insurance increasingly difficult to obtain. This over 70 business has a lot to do with it!
Again many thanks, and also those of MISS HOSIER.
Best Wishes
RICHARD SCHOLAR

Hello Mr. Paynter,
With the Borough and Parish elections looming on the horizon it is time to create some interest and hopefully desire to vote amongst our electorate. One of the main complaints on polling day is that there is not sufficient information regarding postal voting, registration and perhaps even becoming a councillor in the preceding months. I have attached an article which addresses some of these issues and I would be very grateful if you would publish it in your next “Grampound Times”.
The 18 th April is the most important cut off date for registration and applications to vote by post. We will also shortly be sending out posters for parish notice boards to all Parish and Town Clerks to promote further interest.
Regards,
WENDY PARRY
