Most of you will know by now that the Government proposed last December to close 2,500 Post Offices. A National Consultation process came to an end on 8th March and the Government is now considering its response to that consultation. It should become public during April in what order the various areas of the Country are to be dealt with. The closure process is scheduled to last 18 months until late in 2008. It will only be when Cornwall’s turn comes that a local consultation process will decide which Post Offices will be affected.
At present all we know is that the Post Office could close by this summer, at any time up to Christmas 2008 or it may not close at all.
If the Post Office closes, the space available will have to produce income to replace the present Post Office salary and enough to make up the loss of trade from Post Office customers who will have to go elsewhere. If it does not it is unlikely that the shop could survive.
In these uncertain circumstances, Jenny and I turn to the village as a whole for guidance.
On the next few pages there are some ideas about the shop and its services. Please pull out this section and take a little time to fill in your thoughts. All ideas will be welcomed. Your replies can be anonymous if you wish. Just drop the completed form back to the shop at any time during March so that Jenny and I can consider how best to continue to serve you.
