Whilst these are regular events they do not occur every week – please check with me or the event leader for confirmation, eg Julie Blayney for Guides and Rainbows; Margie Lundie for Senior Citizen’s Club. Speaking of which it is great to see that the Senior Citizen’s Club is attracting about 20 people each time. Hopefully the club can continue to grow and offer a wide range of interesting talks, events and opportunities for people to meet.

Unfortunately we have now lost Tae Kwon Do as Iyan’s group numbers fell off. I have left his details in the hall as he was a good supporter of our venue. If anyone is interested and the numbers go back up he could start again, so let him or me know if you are keen.

Some clubs advertise their contact numbers in the notice board in the hall entrance and there is always a copy of the month’s bookings on display there. If anyone wants to confirm a hiring or has a query concerning any of the above events you can also contact me.

In the last issue I mentioned I was negotiating with a coach to see whether short tennis can be brought to the hall. This is still ongoing and will depend on funding applications and cost arrangements before anything can be confirmed.

Events update – looking back and looking forward:

The return of Miracle to perform The Time Machine on Jan 5 th went very well. An excellent show and another sell out. Therefore I have already contracted with Miracle for them to perform “RUMPLSTILTSKIN’S REVENGE” in the hall on Jan 5 th 2008 – how’s that for giving you notice!

Also in January The Classical Quartet provided the hall with some beautiful singing and piano playing and in February Puppetcraft staged a very innovative and creative version of Perseus and the Gorgon’s Head.

Unfortunately the audiences were down to less than 60 for both these events which meant that a lot of people missed a real treat. It also means that I have to continually review what is booked for the hall. I try to source a wide range of performers, and I know people will not want to go to everything, but it is essential for the hall that we continue to host diverse events that are well supported.

So, the next events are:

Saturday April 28 th 7.30pm: “The Lamentable Ballad of Anthony Payne” – Dean Nolan.
Dean is a National Youth Theatre player who is performing a play about the 7ft, 38 stone Cornish giant who fought in the civil war. It tells his story with warmth, humour and pathos and is written by Holyer An Gof prizewinner Alan M. Kent. Dean is from Grampound Road originally and it would be great to support his venture with its premier in our local venue.

Sunday 20 th May, 7.30pm: KEPOW THEATRE – “Seven Ages of Man”.
A comedy/drama show about the stages of life, the title coming from Shakespeare’s notion that we go through seven. This was a sell out hit in New Zealand, Canada, the USA and the 2006 Edinburgh festival. Performed by Kevin Tomlinson from Whose Line Is It Anyway? this show will be transferring to London’s West End after Grampound!

If you have any views on any of the above – or want to book tickets - please contact me.
