The Grampound Times

1st GRAMPOUND GUIDES

This term the Guides were set a challenge, to make an outfit out of recycled items, such as cardboard, plastic bags or other packaging or to customise some of their old clothes or clothes picked up from charity shops or jumbles; We then held a fashion show on the 23 rd March for parents and friends; SYLVIA was our compere for the evening.

We also joined others from the District to celebrate Thinking Day. We have also joined with Scouts to celebrate with them their 100 years of Scouting.

On one of our meetings we helped the girls achieve their Agility badge; they had to bring in a certificate to show they can swim 100 metres and we covered the following clauses of the badge at the session,
1. Throw and catch a ball with a partner, ten times over 6 metres
2. Throw a ball from 4 metres away to hit a target 30cm square
3. Run for 25 metres, bouncing a basketball or similar
4. With a racquet, bounce a ball on the floor 20 times and in the air 20 times
5. Using a rope, skip forwards for two minutes and demonstrate two other skipping movements.

There are 6 Guides who are starting their Baden-Powell Challenge Award. The girls have to have made their Promise, gained 2 challenge badges and 2 interest badges, then they have to complete 10 challenges from the five zones, Healthy lifestyles, Global awareness, Discovery, Skills and relationships and Celebrating diversity.

We will be holding a FUNDRAISING EVENING on FRIDAY 11 TH MAY, 6.00PM - 7.30PM. The Guides will be organising their own stalls, and there will be refreshments and a raffle.
PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT US.

Well done to all the Guides for their efforts over our 1 st year.

A big “Thank You!” to SYLVIA McKAY, AMANDA EDGE and SAM SHEARING
