I made the effort - attended the advertised Annual General Meeting of the Carnival Committee with I must say not a little fear and much trembling, because of the rumours abounding that the Management Committee had had enough, and doubts as to whether Carnival would continue in 2007. To be honest not many others of you seemed to be concerned, as apart from the retiring committee and prospective new committee members I felt decidedly lonely! Clearly you all knew more than I did and I need not have worried in the first place. I am sure that if Carnival Day was to be lost more than me would then be concerned - Grampound organisations benefit greatly as a result of Carnival Day even if at this time they do not fully realise it. Great relief - it continues - many thanks from me to the stalwarts who intend to ensure that it does - they certainly deserve everyones support through 2007.

GRAMPOUND SPORTS & CARNIVAL COMMITTEE
Hello, I’m writing this report as your new Chair following the Annual General Meeting held on the 23 rd January. This was a very important meeting as we knew several of our members were standing down, these included: Bill Collins - Chair, Joe Fryer - Treasurer, Martin Wayman, Stewart & Sharyn Dowd.
We thank these members for all their hard work.
Following the resignations, the task of electing a new committee became of even greater importance than normally it would have been, but great progress was made and I am pleased to tell you the names of our new committee for 2007 who will all be seeking your active support during the year.
DONNA STILL Chair
SIMON FANN Vice Chair
SYLVIA McKAY Secretary
BOB EGERTON Treasurer
General Committee BILL COLLINS, MARY COLLINS, JOHN SWEETMAN, DIANE HANMAN, JONATHON GOULD, PETER LUNDIE, MARGARET LUNDIE
We will all work hard to continue the success of Grampound’s Carnival.
As a team we have already held our first two events, the first being our Annual Pasty Competition and Valentine Quiz an evening that went very well. Our thanks particularly to our judges for the night, DEREK WAY, FRANK WAY and MARJORIE WEAR.
SIMON FANN produced a great Quiz Night for us and it included one round where we were all in fits of laughter.
Our second event took place in the village hall on the 17 th March when we returned to a good old-fashioned idea - A Jumble Sale.
This year Easter occurs in early April and what has become an annual event - AN EASTER EGG HUNT will take place. At the time of writing this report the final arrangements for it have not been completed, but they will be publicised for you on notices around the village in time for you to enjoy it.
On the 18 th May we shall again be holding our GRAND AUCTION - This will again be held in the Dolphin Inn - our thanks to our Hosts there PAUL & SHELLY. This is our biggest fundraising event in the year, and becomes more important because of the ever increasing costs of putting on a Carnival. If you have any good quality items for this event or can offer your services as a ‘Promise’ item (babysitting, gardening etc.) please contact one of the Committee members listed at the beginning of this report.
June month is “Car Treasure Hunt” month - always a bit of fun, perhaps providing a little good natured tension for that Sunday afternoon. At the early date of preparing this report final arrangements need to be confirmed. Please look out for notices nearer the date.
With all of the members of the Sports and Carnival Committee I look forward to your generous support to our efforts during 2007.
DONNA STILL
Chair to Sports & Carnival Committee.
