Hello Everybody,
Welcome to Edition No. 45. Summer (what Summer?) and that means Carnival time is here in Grampound, hence my Editorial scribblings are relegated from the first page in favour of the Carnival Chair's words. Have you noticed how many seemingly well established events around Cornwall no longer take place - casualties of the dreaded Health and Safety Regulations, escalated and near impossible to afford Insurance costs and public apathy. I feel incredibly fortunate to live here in Grampound where, although very small compared to most communities, a quite incredible number of organisations and services continue to flourish. This fact brings very great credit especially on those whose efforts keep things going, and of course on everyone who give their support.
In a community as small as ours it might well be thought unwise to single out any one group because very clearly we all need each other to maintain and improve on our existing successes. But hey! - call it Editorial licence - and this is the Carnival paper!!
The Carnival Committee has a big job, not just in Carnival Week or on Carnival Day, but also through the year raising funds to make Carnival Day the village spectacle it always is. They provide the event that gathers a large crowd together, and every other village organisation is welcomed to attend and raise funds for themselves. Carnival Day, with its Fete and procession is a must continue day for the well being of all of us interested in ‘community here in Grampound. We in many organisations would feel a very severe draft if Carnival Day in Grampound went the way of so many others in the County.
To DONNA, SYLVIA & BOB , the Carnival Committees main Officers and to all of their team, I offer grateful thanks for your years work, and when you drop into your chair after all the clearing up on the following Sunday, I hope you get a very warm glow of satisfaction for a big job very well done, and most importantly will be able to say “Great - can’t wait for next year!”
Finally on this page I want to again acknowledge the work of the whole “Grampound Times” team who by their combined efforts ensure that the paper safely drops through everyone’s letter box. I include gratefully those who write, assemble, deliver, and yes pay, our advertisers and those of you who make cash donations, to ensure the papers future. I end on a slightly sad note as PAUL BREWER our Management Committee Chairman for a number of years has told us he is no longer interested in the Grampound Times and has left. Thanks for your service Paul. Please enjoy this 45 thedition.
