The Grampound Times
-recent editions

This is the “Carnival Edition” and as has become my custom over recent years, I have again invited the Chair of the hard working Carnival Committee to provide the first page of the Summer Grampound Times.

DONNA STILL is known to all around our community due to her willing involvement with so many things here over recent years. This is her first year in the hot seat of Chair to the Carnival Committee - I am sure her first year will not have been easy - but as residents of Grampound ours certainly is - support, support, support Donna and her Committee!
Editor

Welcome to your carnival edition of the “Grampound Times”. As you know from my last report we have old and new members on the Committee this year and we have been working hard towards your carnival on Saturday 1 st September. With everyone crossing fingers we hope to see the wonderful sunshine smiling down on us.

I am very pleased to tell you that our Carnival will as always be led by our Carnival Queen and my thanks to MISS KATE GILBERT who has agreed to be our 2007 Carnival Queen. MISS SOPHIE COOPER has not been with us in Grampound for very long so it is brave of her to be our 2007 Fairy Queen. I hope you will all give them a special cheer as they pass by in the Carnival procession.

Further on in these pages you will find more details of events we have planned and information on registering your entry for the carnival. This year BOB McCREADIE from Pirate F.M. Radio will officially open the afternoon’s event at 2.00pm. The afternoon will include children’s entertainment, craft stalls, games, duck race, refreshments, Cornish beer tent and much more. Our chosen charity this year is ‘The Merlin Project’.

As always it’s a big expense to put the Carnival on so that is why we do other fundraising events throughout the year. Recently we held our car treasure hunt, which was an enjoyable Sunday afternoon, and we also held our Grand Auction in the Dolphin Inn which raised an amazing £2,084. The best so far! Many thanks to all those who gave so generously, and those who came to support us on the night. Many thanks also to JOE FRYER for being a great auctioneer!

The Committee look forward to seeing you all for the carnival events – there really is something for all.

 Best Wishes,

DONNA STILL
Chair to the Carnival Committee.
