GRAMPOUND BOWLING CLUB

Men’s Section Report: It has been a disappointing season thus far particularly for the ‘A’ Team who were promoted to the top division at the end of last season. We are currently at the bottom of the league with five games to play. With five points on offer for each game an escape from relegation is not impossible but realistically unlikely. Holidays and injury have affected team selection, however, the top flight seems just beyond our reach again this season.

There is good news in that TERRY BIGGS reached the final of the divisional unbadged singles competition losing to Zak Busby of Heavy Transport. Young DAVID IDDLES was selected to represent Cornwall at under 21 level only to have the game postponed due to bad weather. David will also represent our Central Division in the Junior Tol Pedn Cup played against the other three divisions in the County.

Ladies Section Report: Our ladies are also waiting for some good weather. Secretary JOAN THOMAS tells me that they are doing quite well in their various SE Cornwall league fixtures. Whilst there are several county competitions still to play, JENNY ANDREW, GILL AISH and JOAN herself have won through local competition and will represent Cornwall at Leamingtron Spa in August - Well done ladies!

General Report: We celebrate our 80 th year this season and have played against a mixed team from both our Central Division and the County. Although hindered by the weather both have been very successful and enjoyable. I would like to record thanks to our ladies who organised both the raffle and food on these occasions.

PETER COCK and myself have almost completed work on the fence adjoining the children’s play area / car park. This has taken much longer than we had hoped but the end result is pleasing and should last a long time.

As always we would welcome new members, particularly from the village. We are a friendly, happy bunch and if you fancy trying our sport, taster sessions can be arranged with bowls provided. Short Mat bowls begins in October at our clubhouse from 7 – 9pm Tuesdays and Thursdays. Anyone interested in either or both should use the following contacts:

Mrs. JOAN THOMAS - 01726 882424 (qualified coach)
CLARENCE JULEFF - 01726 882584
KEITH BLAKE - 01726 67693

Finally I would like to thank the local businesses that helped by advertising in our fixture list this year. Your continued support is much appreciated.
